Fur babies are a big part of a household and require a lot of attention. We want the best for our pets, who are members of our family. One pet shop that caters to providing the best pet care is Wag, a local pet shop.
Wag was originally located in north downtown and was one of the first animal stores in the downtown area when it opened in 2011.
“There was nothing downtown for animals yet when I wanted to open up the shop,” says Eryn Swan, owner of Wag. “That is why I chose that location.”
Swan was inspired to open her own shop by her husband, owner of Greenstreet Cycles, who encouraged her to go for it. Swan says she loves owning her own business and enjoys the creative freedom.
Customers love shopping at Wag because their pets deserve food and treats that are good for them. This is why Wag carries all-natural products with no bi-products or artificial colors. Wag sources products from local and small vendors in the Omaha metro area.
One unique treat Wag carries is an all-natural frozen yogurt for dogs called “DoGurt” from DoGurt Omaha. Swan says in addition to food, Wag also carries necessities for pet owners such as cat litter, collars and leashes.
Just like you, sometimes pets need a good bath. Pets can get a little dirty and leave their mess around the house sometimes, so it’s ideal to keep up with their grooming. Wag offers full grooming with a stress-free experience for each dog and even cats. Wag offers such services as baths, brushing, nail grinding, ear cleaning and custom haircuts.
Swan says no kennels are used at Wag, and each groomer remains with your pet the entire time. Appointments are limited to ensure each pet receives attention and is comfortable. Your pets are in good hands with everyone who works at Wag because they are “total animal lovers,” Swan says.
Another way Wag serves the community is through its active role in animal adoptions from local rescues. Wag partners with a small animal rescue, “Hops n Co.” They rescue several different animals including rabbits and guinea pigs. Sometimes Wag features animals up for adoption in their store.
Wag hosts events for anyone to attend, such as a “hoppy hour” adoption event in the past that raises money for rescue bunnies. The entry donation includes a glass of wine and snacks for guests while they get to meet all the bunnies. At another event, “whiskers and wine,” you can enjoy a glass of wine and playtime with the cats searching for their fur-ever home. Wag participates in the annual family-friendly Quarters Festival bringing community together through music, food and face painting.
